Malawi Sends 202-Strong Delegation to 2025 African Union Sports Council Youth Games in Namibia

Malawi prepares to send 202 people to compete at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games. The team travels to Namibia on Tuesday, July 1, through a special chartered airplane from Lilongwe. Edgar Mtulumbwa from the Malawi National Council of Sports explains the group contains 165 athletes and 37 officials. These officials work as coaches and team managers for the young competitors. The games will run from July 4 through July 13 across two Namibian cities.

Windhoek will host many different sports competitions during the event. Athletes will compete there for football, netball, basketball, lawn tennis, judo, boxing, karate, volleyball, e-sports, and table tennis medals. Swakopmund serves as the second host city for other sporting events. This coastal city will hold swimming, athletics, para-athletics, and Special Olympics competitions for the visiting teams.

Team Malawi has trained hard at the Natural Resources College since June 23. The athletes lived together at this residential camp to prepare for international competition. Three earlier technical training sessions helped improve their skills and team unity. These camps made the athletes ready to face tough competition from other African countries. The extensive preparation should help Malawi perform well against regional rivals.

Athletes will represent Malawi across 14 different sports categories. The team enters both boys and girls football teams along with basketball, volleyball, netball, boxing, karate, judo, lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming, athletics, para-athletics, Special Olympics, and e-sports. The games use the theme "Embrace the Moment" to inspire young athletes.
