Malawian-American Artist JB Endorses Peter Mutharika After K20M Donation

A Malawian-American rapper endorsed Peter Mutharika for president after donating millions to hungry families. Alberto Fernando Zacarias uses the stage name JB and recently gave 20 million Kwacha to help people without food. He posted a photo of the Democratic Progressive Party candidate on Facebook Friday. The message told his followers to vote for Mutharika during September 16 elections. His social media post received massive attention from supporters and critics.

The Facebook endorsement attracted 25,000 likes and more than 8,500 comments within one day. Followers shared the post 139 times across the platform. Richard George Chinjiko supported the choice and called Mutharika the right candidate. Chicco Mwale disagreed and said he would vote for Kabambe instead. Many people worried about Mutharika seeking office at age 86.

Shamie A. Sabe called Mutharika too old to lead the country effectively. The commenter said older politicians should step aside for younger leaders. JB defended his choice and questioned what current President Chakwera accomplished during five years. The 42-year-old artist said people should vote for Mutharika even if he needs help walking. His large youth following created debates about age versus experience among potential voters.
