Malaysia advances nuclear energy plans with new US partnership

Malaysia completed its pre-feasibility assessment for nuclear power as a primary energy source. Research findings demonstrate strong potential for delivering stable and clean electricity nationwide. The government established six technical task forces based on study recommendations.

Science Minister Chang Lih Kang announced that three task forces operate under his ministry's oversight. These teams address technology development, nuclear expertise building, and regulatory frameworks. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation collaborates with the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry on nuclear planning.

Malaysia employs 323 research specialists at the Malaysian Nuclear Agency and 36 scientists at the Atomic Energy Department. The nation signed a Civil Nuclear Strategic Partnership with America on July 10. This agreement complements existing partnerships with China and Russia for nuclear program development.
