Malaysia drags UN over weak peace deals, slams Israel row

Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan urged the United Nations to establish formal cooperation frameworks with regional bodies during Thursday's ministerial meeting. He argued that groups like ASEAN and the African Union offer valuable local knowledge and early warning systems for conflict prevention. Current mediation efforts rely heavily on temporary arrangements rather than systematic partnerships.

The minister called for predictable multi-year funding to replace current fragmented resource allocation. He noted that Security Council veto powers frequently limit the General Assembly's conflict resolution capabilities. Mohamad referenced ongoing violence in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan and Myanmar as examples of unresolved disputes affecting civilians.

He condemned Israeli actions against Qatar as damaging regional peace initiatives. Malaysia advocates for enhanced trust in regional organizations as local peacebuilding experts.
