Man Granted Protection After Public Fight With Ex

A Harare man sought legal protection from his ex-girlfriend after alleging persistent harassment and public humiliation. Tonderai Marembo appeared before magistrate Meenal Narotam, requesting a court order against Sphelile Gwaze following a series of confrontations.

Marembo claimed Gwaze repeatedly insulted him, appeared uninvited at his workplace and home, and followed him to local establishments. He alleged she confronted him at a beerhall, tore his shirt, and stripped him naked in public, causing significant personal embarrassment. The incident reportedly led Marembo to avoid the location completely.

Gwaze contested the allegations, stating she visited the beerhall only once to recover money she believed Marembo owed her. She admitted to taking his clothes but denied fully stripping him, claiming he removed his clothing during their altercation. Gwaze expressed frustration about discovering Marembo was married despite living with her for two weeks.

The magistrate ultimately granted Marembo the protection order, instructing Gwaze to cease harassing him and damaging his property. The court ruling aimed to prevent further public confrontations and protect Marembo from continued personal distress.
