Mariental father, son jailed for killing Carlos le Roux

A Namibian father and son received substantial prison sentences for killing a family member whose mental health struggles and violent behavior had overwhelmed their household despite repeated pleas for outside intervention. High Court Judge Philanda Christiaan imposed 20 years on Hendrik le Roux and 15 years on Borris le Roux after finding them guilty of murdering Carlos le Roux at their Mariental residence through a sustained beating with hosepipe sections.

The court heard that authorities, medical facilities, and social services had failed to provide meaningful support as Carlos's psychological instability and substance dependency created an environment of fear and exhaustion. Judge Christiaan characterized the fatal assault as stemming from years of desperation rather than premeditation, noting the breakdown resulted from a fractured home situation. Both defendants claimed they were attempting to discipline rather than harm the victim, though the court determined Hendrik initiated and led the attack that caused fatal head injuries.
