Marinica demands four points to rescue Warriors’ AFCON hopes

The Warriors' coach is already doing the math after a brutal opening loss. Zimbabwe's national team boss, Marian Marinica, says they need to grab four points from their next two games to have any shot at the knockout rounds. This comes after they fell to Egypt two to one in Agadir, a match where they actually led at one point. A striker named Prince Dube, who plays in Tanzania, put them ahead before Egyptian stars Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah flipped the script. Marinica basically said his team choked. He admitted they showed Egypt too much respect after halftime, dropping back and getting passive instead of staying aggressive. He called it a fear of winning, saying you cannot give elite players that kind of space.

Their path forward is brutally simple now. They face Angola next, then finish the group stage with a huge derby against South Africa. Marinica claims he still believes in his squad, saying the guys on the pitch could have won the Egypt game. But he knows the reality. It is just one loss, but it is their sixth failed opening match at this tournament. The message is clear: forget the pride from a decent first half. The only thing that matters is scraping together results against Angola and their southern rivals. The margin for error is completely gone.
