Masvingo gets glow-up, lithium to laptops

Masvingo Province is basically speedrunning an industrial revolution while the rest of us doomscroll. The region is ditching its sleepy agricultural vibes for serious mining and manufacturing cash that aligns with national goals to hit upper-middle-income status soon. Sinomine Resource Group dropped half a billion dollars on a lithium sulphate plant at Bikita Minerals.

They also started commercially producing pollucite there recently. This rare mineral contains cesium and fetches nearly three grand per tonne on global markets. Ezra Chadzamira handles provincial affairs and called this discovery a massive win since no other African nation produces it. Production targets hit 300 tonnes monthly.

Mashava just saw a $70 million chrome smelting facility go live. Zimbabwe Zhongxin Chrome Smelting Company built two smelters that process 1500 tonnes every month. Rutenga Growth Point established an industrial park for processing sesame and paprika locally. Albert Chivanga runs the council there and claims this stops dealers from smuggling crops into Mozambique.

Lake Mutirikwi finished a 5MW mini-hydro plant supplying power to Masvingo City. Another huge 15MW hydro project is happening at Tugwi-Mukosi Dam by late 2026. Highway dualization continues alongside new bridges near Chevron. Rural schools in Gutu and Zaka are even receiving Starlink kits to fix the digital divide.
