Mbalula says ANC staying in unity government despite DA tension

African National Congress secretary general Fikile Mbalula has reaffirmed his party's dedication to maintaining its governing coalition despite friction with Democratic Alliance officials. During a November 6 radio interview on Power FM, Mbalula dismissed speculation about withdrawing from the partnership established after the ANC secured only 40 percent of the voter support in last year's national polls. He characterized the arrangement as essential for national stability and continuity of policy.

Mbalula addressed multiple challenges facing his organization, including internal renewal efforts and corruption allegations. He acknowledged public dissatisfaction with service delivery while defending progress achieved since South Africa's democratic transition. The ANC leader warned that failure to implement meaningful reforms could weaken electoral prospects during next year's municipal contests. He also discussed complex issues like land redistribution and international pressures against affirmative action policies. Mbalula stressed that coalition participation remains strategic despite disagreements over legislation and governance approaches. His comments came amid growing debate about the ruling party's direction following recent electoral setbacks and internal leadership tensions across several provinces.
