McKinstry sets final team for 2026 qualifier matches

Coach Johnathan McKinstry named his final team yesterday for next week's 2026 World Cup games. He picked these players after cutting down from the 33 names he shared earlier. McKinstry made the announcement at Football House, where he revealed which athletes would represent The Gambia on the field. The coach selected three goalkeepers: Ebrima Jarju, Sheikh Sibi, and Musa Dibaga.

The defense lineup includes six players ready to protect the goal. Omar Colley heads this group alongside Omar Gaye and Lars Joseph Ceesay. Completing the defensive wall stand Dadi Dodou Gaye, Momodou Lion Njie, and Sheriff Sinyan. McKinstry chose seven midfielders to control the game flow. These players include Saikou Touray, Ebrima Adams, Abubakr Barry, and Alasana Manneh.

Three more midfielders join the squad - Mahmud Bajo, Ebrima Darboe, and Ablie Jallow. The attack features eight forwards ready to score goals against their opponents. Musa Barrow leads this group with Alieu Fadera and Gibril Sillah. The remaining forwards include Yankuba Minteh, Abdoulie Sanyang, Ali Sowe, Abdoulie Ceesay, and Alasana Jatta.

The Gambian team faces tough challenges against Kenya and Ivory Coast. They play Kenya first on March 20, followed by Ivory Coast four days later on March 24. Both matches happen away from home as the team travels to Abidjan. These games matter greatly for The Gambia's hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.
