A school headmaster died after chasing mysterious men who took students. James Mwonzora, brother to political figure Douglas Mwonzora, passed away following a car crash during the pursuit. His vehicle overturned on the Mutare-Nyanga road while trying to intercept two cars that had collected female boarders without authorization.
The incident also killed a school guard, Uzler Nenohwe, while another guard, Greatness Mkwindidza, survived with injuries. Two unidentified men had retrieved the students, their motives still unclear. Mwonzora was transported to a hospital in Harare after initial treatment in Mutare.
Mutasa Central MP Trevor Saruwaka praised Mwonzora as a respected community figure who elevated St Mathias in Watsomba to a sought-after institution. District education officer Zachariah Chikwangwani noted his hard work in improving academic pass rates. The community mourns a headmaster known for his significant impact.
