Meta fears competition, cuts Hypernova glasses price to a mere $800

Meta plans to release smart glasses featuring integrated displays next month at a reduced price point of $800. The company adjusted pricing from the anticipated $1,000 range to establish market dominance before competitors launch similar products. This pricing strategy sacrifices profit margins to encourage widespread consumer adoption among early technology adopters.

The glasses, internally called Hypernova, will project notifications, navigation data, and applications directly into users' visual field. Meta may bundle the device with a neural wristband controller that the company has developed over several years. These features surpass current Ray-Ban and Oakley partnerships, which offer AI assistance and cameras without display capabilities.

The reduced pricing positions the glasses as alternatives to premium smartwatches, tablets, and entry-level computers. Meta aims to bridge consumer expectations between basic smart eyewear and comprehensive augmented reality headsets like Apple Vision Pro. The company seeks substantial sales volumes to transform the product from niche technology into mainstream consumer electronics.
