Meta raids Apple to snag Ruoming Pang with a $200 million bonus

Meta just stole another top worker from Apple by offering crazy money that most people can only dream about. The social media company gave Ruoming Pang a massive 200 million dollar signing bonus to quit his job at Apple and join their AI team. Apple could not match the huge amount that Meta put on the table for their artificial intelligence expert. The deal includes regular salary plus company stock shares that could be worth even more money later. Meta keeps using giant cash offers to steal the best talent from other tech companies.

The catch is that Pang will not get all that money right away and might never see it if he leaves early. Meta has a history of promising workers huge bonuses but then finding ways to avoid paying the full amount. Lucas Beyer left OpenAI to work for Meta after they promised him 100 million dollars but he says he has not received the money yet. The company makes employees stay for years before they can collect their full bonus payments.

OpenAI boss Sam Altman recently said that throwing money at people does not create the best work environment. He claims that none of his top employees have taken jobs with Meta despite the tempting offers. The battle for AI talent continues as companies fight over the smartest workers in the field.
