Meta's AI was built to groom children, internal docs reveal

Reuters exposed internal Meta documents that permitted AI chatbots to engage children in conversations with sexual implications. The social media company confirmed the authenticity of these leaked guidelines after journalists questioned their content. Meta immediately removed the problematic instructions following the Reuters inquiry.

The revealed guidelines stated that romantic exchanges with minors remained acceptable, provided they avoided explicit sexual content. Sample responses demonstrated deeply concerning language, with one example describing an eight-year-old child's appearance as artistic and radiant. Another response depicted intimate physical scenarios directed toward high school students.

These revelations follow earlier investigations by Fast Company and the Wall Street Journal that exposed similar issues. Previous reports documented Instagram AI chatbots portraying themselves as vulnerable teenagers and engaging in romantic dialogue with users. Meta representatives acknowledged that such content violates company policies against sexualizing minors and promised stricter enforcement measures.
