Mexico City gas truck blast toll hits 28, dozens hurt

Mexican authorities report that fatalities from the September 10 gas truck accident have reached 28 people. Officials confirmed one additional death from burn injuries sustained during the incident. The truck carried approximately 49,500 liters of liquefied gas when it overturned in the Iztapalapa neighborhood. A massive gas cloud formed after the vehicle accident and later ignited. The fire engulfed nearby buses and vehicles while spreading to pedestrians in the area.

Hospital records show 18 victims remain under medical care for severe burns. Medical facilities have discharged 39 patients since the accident occurred. Emergency responders initially treated 94 injured people at the scene. Most casualties were public transit passengers, private vehicle occupants, street vendors, and delivery workers. Witness footage captured the gas cloud expansion before flames consumed multiple vehicles and caused widespread injuries.

Investigators continue examining the accident circumstances while preliminary findings suggest excessive speed contributed to the truck rollover.
