Michael Jackson scored a top-10 hit in six decades with Thriller

Michael Jackson has become the first artist to achieve top 10 hits across six decades after his 1982 track Thriller climbed to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the recent Halloween season. The achievement surpasses Andy Williams, who previously held the record with top 10 placements spanning five decades before his 2012 death. Jackson, who died 16 years ago, first reached the top 10 as a solo performer in 1971 when Got To Be There peaked at number four.

The current chart reflects Halloween listening habits from early November, with several seasonal tracks making appearances including Monster Mash at number 21 and Ghostbusters at number 22. Jackson has accumulated 30 top 10 hits throughout his career, with his most recent prior to this being a posthumous collaboration with Drake in 2018. Meanwhile, Mariah Carey's perennial holiday favorite All I Want For Christmas Is You has already entered the Hot 100 at number 31.
