Micron hikes memory prices as demand drives costs

Micron told customers it plans to charge more for memory through 2025 and 2026. They can't make enough to meet the growing demand for their products. The company sees major increases in demand for DRAM, NAND flash, and high-bandwidth memory. Memory prices have started bouncing back after being very low for a long time.

Big suppliers cut back how much they made, which helped prices go up over the past year. Prices will keep rising as data centers, AI projects, and electronics makers fight over limited memory supplies. Micron told their business partners that AI and computing needs forced them to raise prices. They asked these partners to share detailed plans about what they'll need to help manage production during these tight times.

Micron also announced plans to spend $7 billion on a new facility in Singapore. The plant will open in 2026 and make advanced HBM3E, HBM4, and HBM4E memory. These special types of memory power the newest AI chips and advanced computing systems from NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, and other tech companies.

The higher prices may spread across AI products and graphics cards. This might make many things cost more, from gaming computers to big company data systems. Industry watchers are checking how these changes will affect companies' upgrades to hardware and the adoption of new technologies as manufacturers pass these extra costs on to buyers.
