Midlands football faces another devastating loss as Joseph Banda died Sunday at Bethel Hospital following a brief stress-related illness. The former Zimalloys goalkeeper and team manager passed away just two days after FC Platinum Under-19 player Perfector Shoko died. Grassroots coach Sama Musekiwa also died recently. The province mourns the loss of multiple football personalities within a three-month period. Former Chapungu defender Tawanda Marimo and ex-Zimalloys player Morris Mathonsi previously died during this tragic period.
Banda served as Zimalloys' goalkeeper from 1988 to 1996 before joining the company. He returned as team manager in 2003 alongside the late Beaven Gwamure. George Maburo, his former teammate, confirmed Banda encouraged his three sons to pursue football careers.
