Milan sells San Siro to Inter, AC for stadium wipeout

Milan city hall approved the sale of San Siro stadium to Inter Milan and AC Milan for 197 million euros after more than 11 hours of debate that ended early Tuesday. The two clubs will demolish the famous venue and construct a new 71,500-capacity arena on adjacent land by 2031. Both teams had threatened to leave the city if officials rejected the deal for the site spanning 28 hectares in western Milan.

The sale must be completed by November 10, before a protection order takes effect that would prevent demolition of the current stadium. Political opposition emerged across multiple parties over concerns about bypassing local democracy and undervaluing prime real estate. The decision supports Milan as a candidate to host matches during Euro 2032 alongside Turkey. Inter Milan and AC Milan will continue playing at San Siro until the replacement facility opens.
