Mineral revenue piles up, targets within reach

The Tanzanian government has collected over 430.1 billion shillings in mineral revenues for the Treasury, achieving 35.85 percent of its annual target just months into the 2025/26 financial year. Ministry of Minerals Deputy Permanent Secretary Msafiri Mbibo announced the figures, confirming the full-year goal is 1.405 trillion shillings.

Speaking at a workers council meeting in Mwanza, Mbibo stated that the ministry is focused on seven priorities to strengthen the mining sector. These include enhancing revenue collection, developing strategic mineral value chains, and formalizing small-scale mining operations. Other priorities involve attracting investment in exploration and improving gemstone auction management.

Mbibo emphasized that the workers' council is a legal forum for providing recommendations. He also noted that council members would visit the Geita Gold Mine to observe operations. The union chairman, Joseph Ngulumwa, commended Permanent Secretary Yahya Samamba for initiatives aimed at improving staff welfare.
