Mkandawire hails Football Legends AGM as a model for sports governance in Malawi

Youth and Sports Minister Uchizi Mkandawire praised the Football Legends Association during their first Annual General Meeting. He called the organization a model for informal sports groups seeking professional structure. The Minister emphasized how unity and clear purpose help transform grassroots movements into effective institutions. Government officials recognize the valuable contributions of former athletes to society. Mkandawire announced plans for developing national policies supporting retired sports professionals.

The Association was founded as an informal group in 2021 and has since evolved into a recognized institution. Chairperson Jim Kalua celebrated the adoption of their first constitution during the meeting. This legal framework enables the organization to operate with greater accountability and transparency. Two primary programs focus on medical assistance and skills development for former players. The Football Association of Malawi supports these efforts through a formal partnership agreement.
