MKP suspends Hlophe, reverses Makhubele’s removal in shake-up

Jacob Zuma's uMkhonto weSizwe Party placed its deputy president under suspension late on Wednesday, halting Dr. John Hlophe's duties in both party leadership and parliamentary positions while officials review allegations about his actions. The former president made the call after returning from Burkina Faso and receiving reports about National Assembly personnel changes implemented without broader organizational input.

Party officials nullified Hlophe's decision to dismiss Chief Whip Collen Makhubele and install Des Van Rooyen as her replacement. The organization stated that the suspension reinforces principles of shared governance among all party structures. Leadership emphasized its dedication to maintaining constitutional standards for discipline and collaborative decision-making.

A source within the party indicated Makhubele's removal stemmed from internal findings that recommended her suspension. The official said evidence supporting the action already existed and made further inquiry unnecessary. Party representatives assured members and South African citizens that operations continue without disruption as the organization pursues its goals for national transformation.
