MKU showers students with bus, gear, and scholarships

Mount Kenya University acquired a Scania Marcopolo bus and distributed sports gear to athletes and creative arts students on October 25, 2025. Board Chairman Simon Gicharu presented the vehicle to Vice-Chancellor Deogratius Jaganyi at a ceremony held at the graduation pavilion grounds.

The university plans to construct dormitories with 1,500 self-contained rooms, featuring upgraded athletic facilities and a swimming pool. Gicharu instructed administrators to establish scholarships for creative arts students as the sector expands across Kenya. Three athletics students will join the Kenya Defence Forces while Bridgit Lucy Katuku earned selection to represent Kenya at the World Under-21 Taekwondo Championships.

Sports Coordinator William Luta said the bus will reduce travel fatigue that previously affected competition performance. The new uniforms and equipment will strengthen team identity at events. Gicharu noted that creative professionals contribute significantly to the Kenyan economy but receive inadequate compensation for their work.
