Mnangagwa backs SMEs to fuel market comeback

President Mnangagwa recently highlighted how small businesses drive economic growth nationwide. He made these remarks when opening the Mbare Musika Traders Market Phase 1, a modern facility designed for small business operations. The new marketplace allows 1,628 traders to start working again after losing their previous stalls during last year's fire.

The president emphasized that small enterprises form a crucial part of the national economy through their GDP contributions. His administration views these businesses as essential for creating jobs, generating wealth, and enabling broad economic participation across society. During his trip to Uganda for the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development as SADC Chairman, discussions centered on boosting economic opportunities specifically for youth and women.

Mnangagwa urged local entrepreneurs to expand their businesses using current technologies and digital innovations. The government stands ready to back new ventures, particularly in the agriculture, financial services, and climate technology sectors. According to the president, these industries will help advance national industrialization goals. The modernized market represents a significant step toward improving trading conditions for small business operators throughout the country.
