Mob kills Inspector Jeremiah after false alarm in Plateau, 18 arrested

Plateau State Police Command detained eighteen individuals following the mob killing of Inspector Lasare Jeremiah in Bassa Local Government Area. The Criminal Investigation Department officer faced death while attempting to apprehend Audu Abdullahi, who had been terrorizing Nyakala community residents. Abdullahi falsely claimed the arresting officers were motorcycle thieves, prompting violent crowd action against both policemen. Community members severely beat Jeremiah and his colleague before realizing the deception. The inspector later succumbed to his injuries at a medical facility.

DSP Alabo Alfred reported that investigators made three initial arrests before suspects identified additional participants. Authorities condemned the vigilante violence while emphasizing that proper legal channels exist for addressing criminal matters. The mob also fatally attacked Abdullahi after discovering his false accusations. Alfred described Jeremiah as an exceptional officer whose death represents a significant loss to the command and his family. Police continue investigating the incident while urging communities to avoid taking justice into their hands.
