Police officers rescued two robbery suspects from an angry mob at Chicken Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja on Friday morning. The men had targeted a female passenger while operating from an unmarked taxi vehicle. Their victim screamed for help when they attempted to steal her mobile phone and force her to reveal her banking credentials. Nearby pedestrians responded immediately to her distress calls and stopped the moving vehicle. The crowd pulled both suspects from the taxi and began attacking them with wooden sticks and rocks.
Federal Capital Territory Police Command spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh verified that officers received an emergency call during the early morning hours. Patrol units found the two men severely injured on the ground near the busy junction area. Medical personnel transported both suspects to National Hospital for urgent treatment after police intervention saved their lives. Commissioner Ajao S. Adewale has ordered the Wuse Division commander to launch a thorough criminal investigation. The swift police response prevented what could have become a fatal mob justice incident.
