Mobile courts zoom in, Kenyan drivers sweat

Chief Justice Martha Koome launched a multi-agency crackdown on reckless driving, deploying mobile courts along major highways. Officers from the NTSA, Kenya Police, and the EACC will jointly patrol roads. The move responds to a deadly spike in accidents, with over two dozen killed in just the first half of the month.

The mobile courts will allow for instant prosecution of traffic offenders. Authorities aim for a unified enforcement approach, with the EACC specifically targeting roadside bribery involving both drivers and cops. The system might become permanent if this holiday season pilot works.

They promise to announce court locations for transparency. Drivers will get immediate access to legal help. The goal is to stop the road carnage during this heavy travel period, with warnings for speeding, drunk driving, and overloading.
