Modi clears 57 new KVs, calls it a landmark

The Indian government will open 57 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country at a cost of 5,862 crore rupees over nine years beginning in 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the schools represent a major expansion of quality education access for children of central government employees. The facilities will feature Balvatikas that provide three years of foundational learning before primary education under the National Education Policy 2020.

Twenty schools will serve districts that currently lack Kendriya Vidyalayas despite having substantial numbers of federal workers. The Ministry of Home Affairs will sponsor seven locations while state and union territory governments will back the remaining 50 sites. Fourteen schools will operate in aspirational districts while nine others will serve areas affected by left-wing extremism or located in remote northeastern and mountainous regions. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the expansion on October 1 after sanctioning 85 schools in December 2024.
