Modi government hurls 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas, Rs 5,862 crore school spree

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved on Wednesday the establishment of 57 Kendriya Vidyalayas across India with funding exceeding 5,862 crore rupees through 2035. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the committee that allocated approximately 2,585 crore rupees for infrastructure and 3,277 crore rupees for operations. The initiative will serve 86,640 students and generate 4,617 permanent positions across institutions accommodating 1,520 students each.

Twenty schools will open in districts without existing Kendriya Vidyalayas despite substantial Central government employee populations. The Ministry of Home Affairs will sponsor seven facilities while state and union territory governments will fund 50 locations. Fourteen schools target Aspirational districts, four serve left-wing extremism areas and five operate in northeastern and mountainous regions. The organization currently runs 1,288 schools domestically and three internationally with total enrollment reaching 13.62 lakh students as of June 30.
