The Skill India Mission began in Gujarat when Narendra Modi established the Gujarat Skill Development Mission in 2009, while serving as chief minister. Modi launched the national version on July 15, 2015, after becoming prime minister. The program has trained more than 60 million youth across 40 sectors, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel leads the state initiative. The mission provides vocational training aligned with market needs, reduces unemployment, and prepares workers to compete globally, while advancing economic independence.
