Modi's birthday gift to Vadodara vendors is more debt

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation registered more than 3,000 street vendors on Tuesday during a two-day program that relaunched the PM SVANidhi Scheme 2.0 at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium. Municipal officials set a goal to enroll over 50,000 vendors within six months as part of Urban Development Year celebrations. The revised program offers working capital loans in three tiers of 15,000 rupees, 25,000 rupees and 50,000 rupees to support small-scale merchants across the city.

Municipal Commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu said the initiative launched on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday received strong participation from government representatives and local business owners. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs restructured the original 2020 scheme to run through March 31, 2030, with plans to serve 115 million street vendors nationwide. Beneficiaries praised the collateral-free financing system that provides a 7 percent interest subsidy and monthly cashback incentives of up to 100 rupees for digital transactions.
