MOH to review hospital visitors' board appointments after controversy

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced major changes coming to hospital board appointments across Malaysia. The ministry plans to revamp how they pick Hospital Visitors' Board Members for all hospitals nationwide. Officials will tighten up the rules about who can apply and what they need to contribute to their communities. The new system will match better with the country's public health goals. Dr Dzulkefly wants to make sure only the right people with good reputations get these important jobs.

The minister made this announcement after a messy situation hit the news recently. Someone got appointed to the Hospital Visitors' Board at Rembau Hospital who should never have been chosen. This person's background clashed with the health ministry's current policies and created a major headache. The appointment went viral on social media and embarrassed the ministry. Dr Dzulkefly admitted his team made a serious mistake during the background check process.

The controversial board member has already been removed from the position. Dr Dzulkefly confirmed that this person no longer serves on the Rembau hospital board. He acknowledged that the screening failure damaged public trust in the Health Ministry. The minister said this mess hurt how people view the entire health system. He promised to fix the problems and restore confidence in future appointments.

The ministry faces a huge task ahead with thousands of applications to review. They received 2,860 nominations from hospitals, state health officials, and community leaders. These applications cover board positions at 143 hospitals across the country. Each nomination goes through multiple levels of review with input from state representatives. The ministry must balance thorough screening with efficient processing of all these candidates.
