Monkey Mischief Knocks Out Sri Lanka Power Grid

Monkey Causes Big Power Problem in Sri Lanka.

A monkey caused trouble in Sri Lanka when it touched important power equipment on Sunday morning. Many people lost electricity in their homes and shops across the whole country.

The Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody explained that the monkey touched something called a grid transformer. This made all the power machines stop working properly. Doctors needed power for their hospitals, and people needed power to clean water, which meant fixing these places became very important.

People wrote funny messages online about what happened. Some drew pictures of monkey gods, and others wondered how one small monkey could make such a big problem for everyone. A newspaper boss named Jamila Husain said only in her country could fighting monkeys make all the lights go out.

The Daily Mirror newspaper found out that clever people who fix power stations have been telling the government to make better power lines for many years. One person who fixes power stations said even small problems can cause everyone to lose power because the equipment needs repairs.

Sri Lanka experienced a difficult year last year when many people lost power due to money problems. The government says it will take a few hours for everyone to turn their lights back on.
