Monolith Soft eyed for Zelda’s next big leap

A recent Nintendo interview hinted at a bigger future role for Monolith Soft in the Zelda franchise. General Manager Daiki Iwamoto stated he wants the developer to play a central role in building future Zelda titles from the ground up. The studio, known for the Xenoblade series, previously assisted on major entries like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

Iwamoto praised Monolith's expanded capabilities in handling development from early concepts to final implementation. His comments suggest a deeper collaboration where the team could take significant creative responsibility. Fans speculate this might eventually lead to Monolith helming its own standalone Zelda project, though it would still operate as a partner to Nintendo's main team.

With over three years passing since the last major Xenoblade release, the studio is likely preparing a new project. The Tokyo-based team's proven support work on Zelda, combined with their own RPG expertise, positions them for a more influential position in the iconic series' future.
