Monsignor Sunday warns against phone use, commercialization in the church

Monsignor John Vianney Sunday of Kabale Catholic Diocese, criticized congregants for misusing church services through phone activity and photography during Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral. The Vicar General condemned behavior that transforms worship spaces into commercial venues rather than preserving them as sacred locations for spiritual devotion. He emphasized that believers have obligations to fund evangelization efforts and charitable programs while warning against treating religious practices as financial transactions.

Sunday stressed that baptized Christians form a consecrated community responsible for mutual spiritual support beyond physical structures. He called on worshippers to maintain purity by avoiding sin that affects others negatively and to seek healing through the Holy Spirit.

Parish Priest Christmas Austin announced that this year's Bishop's Annual Appeal Fund operated at the local level. Rushoroza Cathedral collected 137,789,800 Ugandan shillings plus 100 cement bags during the event, with proceeds designated for cathedral floor restoration work.
