Monument planned for Chetambe battle heroes in Bungoma

They are finally building a memorial for warriors who fought colonists. Plans are moving forward to construct a monument at Chetambe Hill in Bungoma County, honoring Bukusu fighters killed in a historic battle against British forces and their local allies over a century ago. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula confirmed the government's commitment at a Tachoni Cultural Festival in Webuye East, recalling a 2016 promise for the site.

Wetangula told investors to meet him so they can develop a complex on the hill, even proposing to buy private land if needed. He said the memorial should include office space for community leaders and visiting dignitaries, reserving an office for himself. The Speaker praised the Tachoni Culture Network for preserving heritage and was installed as the Tachoni spokesperson at the event. He was joined by politicians like Senate Chief Whip Wafula Wakoli and Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga.
