Moses Mpofu in Bail Showdown Over EU Biogas Scam

Moses Mpofu heads to court today for a bail decision on fraud charges. His wife, Nobukhosi, and brother Vusumuzi had already left jail after paying $800 each. The three ran Synlak Company together when they worked with Harare City. They promised to build biogas equipment with money from the European Union. The city picked their company because they said they would finish work before asking for payment.

The Mpofu family later asked for $186,116 before doing any work. They sent a bill claiming they finished everything and wanted $465,290. The city sent $415,290 to their bank accounts without checking if the work was done. The family took this money and spent it on things not related to the project. Mr. Mabhena Moyo from the city wants the court to keep Moses Mpofu in jail.
