Moses Wetangula pledges Parliament's full backing for NCIC and new IEBC

Speaker Moses Wetang'ula pledged Parliament's assistance to independent institutions during Wednesday's meeting with National Cohesion and Integration Commission officials. Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia led the NCIC delegation that visited Wetang'ula's office for discussions about national unity efforts. Parliament will provide budgetary allocations and legal strengthening measures for these bodies to fulfill their responsibilities effectively. The Speaker emphasized how independent institutions maintain Kenya's social harmony and peaceful environment. He stressed that national progress depends on the work these organizations perform across the country.

Wetang'ula expressed strong backing for the recently appointed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ahead of 2027 elections. He urged Kenyans to support the electoral body rather than subject it to premature criticism during its establishment phase. Kobia thanked Parliament for continued assistance but requested expedited passage of the NCIC Amendment Bill from 2014. This legislative change would enhance the Commission's authority to address divisive matters and promote cohesion. The Speaker acknowledged citizens' demonstration rights while cautioning against disrupting other people's freedoms during protests.
