Mottley’s red army gears up, polls likely before 2027 deadline

Prime Minister Mia Mottley is basically telling her party to get their campaign gear ready. Speaking at a party event, she strongly hinted at an early election next year, even though the official deadline is 2027. She told Barbados Labour Party supporters they need to be rested and prepared for work in 2026, repeating the phrase for emphasis. She warned them not to be tired when she calls on them, but to say they are red and ready, a reference to the party's color.

Mottley pointed to the country's economic stats to bolster her case, citing seventeen straight quarters of growth and record low unemployment. Her party has already started prepping on the ground, nominating new candidates for a couple of constituencies. Political observers note this fits her pattern, as she also called an early election last time around. Her party swept all thirty seats in both the 2018 and 2022 elections.
