Movie Style Prison Break Thief Gets 22 Years

A prisoner who ran from court faces 22 years behind bars. Luke Zinyengere must serve time for escape and armed robbery after stealing a car at gunpoint. He claimed he used a toy gun during his crime. The court found he had a real weapon smuggled into his cell with help from family members and a prison guard.

The judge called this a well-planned crime that scared many people. She gave him 10 years for breaking free and 12 years for taking the car. His only good point was being a first offender with family. Police caught him later trying to rent a car in Ruwa after receiving a tip. He left the stolen vehicle near a parts shop downtown.

Officers arrested several others who helped him escape. These people include a prison worker, a prosecutor, and two relatives. The original armed robbery cases against him made his sentence harsher. The court said jail breaks cannot be taken lightly because society needs protection from dangerous criminals.
