A West African maritime organization has opened discussions with Singaporean port authorities to enhance harbor operations and environmental performance across member nations. The Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa initiated the partnership during a Singapore meeting between Secretary General Paul Adalikwu and Maritime and Port Authority Chief Executive Ang Wee Keong.
Adalikwu requested technical assistance covering workforce training, facility improvements and shipping digitalization. He advocated for unified documentation systems that would streamline customs processes at regional ports. The Secretary General highlighted targets to cut vessel pollution by at least 20 percent before 2030 while working toward zero greenhouse gas output by approximately 2050 under International Maritime Organisation guidelines. Technical support from Singapore would help West and Central African states meet these climate commitments while modernizing coastal infrastructure.
Keong welcomed the collaboration proposal and confirmed his agency stands ready to assist the regional bloc with maritime advancement goals. Both organizations plan to reconvene in London during the coming months to finalize a cooperation agreement. Adalikwu pledged backing from 25 MOWCA countries for Singapore's bid to secure an IMO Council position in the upcoming elections.
