Moyog, Kapayan races draw record fields

Two constituencies in Sabah's Penampang district are witnessing unprecedented multi-cornered battles during the state election, with Kapayan setting a new record through its 13-candidate contest while Moyog features 12 contenders. The Kapayan race includes two-term incumbent Jannie Lasimbang from DAP facing significant challenges from Warisan's Chin Tek Ming, UPKO's Billy Joe Dominic, and STAR's Bernard Logijin, among others, as voters in this mixed seat weigh economic concerns against infrastructure frustrations.

In Moyog, where 84 percent of voters are Kadazanmurut, Pakatan Harapan and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah are leading the competition for this bellwether constituency. GRS is running Joeynood Aiiko Ronald C Bansin, while PH fielded Remysta Jimmy Taylor after UPKO began leaving the coalition. UPKO has entered Donald Peter Mojuntin, and Warisan selected Terence Siambun to replace Darell Leiking. Both major coalition candidates reported receiving their nominations just days before the announcement.
