MP calls to depoliticize Bawku conflict

A senior lawmaker wants the government to step up efforts to solve the Bawku conflict without political blame games. Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, who serves as Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee in Parliament, believes politicians must stop accusing each other of making the situation worse. He stressed this approach during a television interview on April 14.

Fordjour expressed concern about young people clashing with security forces sent to maintain order in the area. He called this development particularly dangerous since security personnel are there to protect residents. The Assin South representative urged all groups involved in the violence to show restraint so that peace could return.

The ongoing conflict has severely damaged essential services in the municipality, according to Fordjour. He emphasized that every politician needs to treat the issue as a national problem rather than a partisan one. The government received his support for addressing the crisis, but he insisted more action was needed from officials to find a lasting solution.
