MPs Slam New Weather Authority Over Redundant Bureaucracy

People in Kenya's government have asked why we need a new weather group. They wonder about creating the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority when Kenya has already closed some other government offices.

Members of Parliament met to discuss this. They want to meet with the weather department people first. Mr. Kamuren, who led the meeting, said, "We need to ask why we should create this new authority when we already have the Kenya Meteorological Department."

Mr. Kamuren thinks the current weather department can do more work. He believes they can grow bigger and handle all the weather tasks without making a brand-new office.

Mr. Emathe from Turkana wants the new weather rules to include old ways people predict the weather. He thinks this will help provide better early warnings about storms and floods. Mr. Ngogoyo agreed with him.

Mr. Ngogoyo also asked a question about the new weather group's leaders. The rules state that everyone must have a college degree. He wants to change this rule because many young people could work there without degrees.

Senator Aaron Cheruiyot wrote this bill. The main idea is to create laws for the new Kenya Meteorological Service Authority. This group would manage all weather information and services in Kenya.
