MTN corners Starlink market in poor South Sudan

MTN South Sudan has begun selling Starlink satellite internet kits through its customer service points and Connect Stores nationwide. The telecom operator partnered with SpaceX's Starlink in September 2024 and received authorization from the National Communications Authority to distribute the service. The company aims to expand digital access across South Sudan's remote communities.

Starlink delivers download speeds from 25 to 220 Mbps with latency between 50 and 90 milliseconds. The service supports cloud applications, video streaming, and bandwidth-intensive activities as an alternative to existing rural connectivity options. MTN encourages customers to purchase kits and subscriptions through authorized MTN channels to ensure genuine products and reliable support. The initiative is expected to boost internet penetration, support digital inclusion, and foster economic and social development nationwide.
