MTN Uganda clears Shs 10 million medical bill for Toro Babies Home

MTN Uganda helped save a children's home from financial trouble on Friday. The company cleared a 10 million shilling medical debt that had built up at Toro Babies Home. CEO Sylvia Mulinge led the team that visited the facility in Fort Portal City. Workers also gave another 10 million shillings for future medical expenses. The group brought food, diapers, soap and other supplies for the children.

Ruth Tumusiime runs the home and explained how the debt started two years ago. Medical bills kept growing because the babies needed frequent healthcare. The home takes care of 50 children who range from newborns to five years old. Many of these children have been abandoned or come from difficult situations. The facility also faces problems with food shortages and finding families to adopt disabled children.

Fort Portal City MP Alex Ruhunda attended the visit and praised MTN for helping. He asked young people to think carefully before having children they cannot afford. The lawmaker wants more people from the Tooro area to support homes that care for vulnerable children. Community help remains important for these facilities to keep operating. The babies depend on donations and support from companies and individuals to survive.

The medical debt had threatened the quality of care at the home. Rising healthcare costs made it hard for staff to provide proper treatment. MTN's donation came at a critical time when the facility needed immediate help. The children's home continues caring for infants who have nowhere else to go. This support allows the facility to focus on helping children rather than worrying about unpaid bills.
