MTV axes Catfish after 12 years of busting fake lovers

MTV terminated the reality television series Catfish following nine seasons and more than 300 episodes. Host Nev Schulman confirmed the cancellation through an Instagram announcement alongside original co-host Max Joseph. The program originated from Schulman's 2010 documentary that detailed his personal online deception experience. Joseph suggested the show might resume later, though both hosts acknowledged the series conclusion. The cancellation ends twelve years of exposing fraudulent online relationships and romantic scams.

Schulman expressed gratitude toward viewers and participants who shared their digital dating stories during the farewell message. He described the program as fostering worldwide discussions about trust and compassion in virtual relationships. Joseph appreciated families who watched the show together across multiple seasons. The hosts referenced memorable moments from the series, particularly viral social media exchanges. Schulman transitions into New York City real estate ventures as his next professional endeavor.

The program established a lasting impact through internet investigation techniques and unforgettable television segments. Catfish introduced audiences to social media personality Rolling Ray among other notable guests. The series created a template for exposing deceptive online behavior patterns.
