The Muchekeranwa Dam has transformed agriculture and livelihoods along the Manicaland-Mashonaland East border, bringing an end to decades of rain-dependent farming. Local resident Gertrude Masomere said that communities once envied urban dwellers but have since gained control over their futures with the completion of the dam. The reservoir enables year-round cultivation, supports commercial tobacco farming at Belventa Farm, and sustains fish harvesting operations that supply markets in Marondera and Harare.
Makomo Engineering is constructing a 26-kilometer pipeline to extend water access to Wenimbi Dam and supply 90 megaliters of water to Chitungwiza, thereby addressing chronic shortages in multiple municipalities. Site Manager Jianzhao Pang confirmed that foundation work and pipe bridges are finished. Marondera University of Agricultural Science and Technology uses dam water for research and expanded crop production, implementing Heritage-Based Education 5.0 initiatives.
The dam is situated at the confluence of the Mucheke and Nyagumbo rivers, providing a vital anchor for food security and economic growth in the Svosve and Chiduku villages. The infrastructure project represents the Second Republic's water development strategy in support of Vision 2030 goals.
