Muhwezi Goes All Out for Villages in Farewell Run

Security Minister Jim Muhwezi plans to run for parliament one final time. The 74-year-old picked up his forms Wednesday morning from the ruling party offices in Kampala. He wants to represent Rujumbura County again after winning back his seat in 2021. Muhwezi lost his position in 2016 but made a comeback five years later. President Museveni brought him back as Security Minister after his election victory.

Muhwezi says he has unfinished business to complete before stepping down. He wants to bring electricity to every village across his area. Water access remains another top priority for all communities he represents. Road connections will link remote villages to main transportation routes. The veteran politician believes these three projects will transform life for his constituents.

The former guerrilla fighter helped bring the current government to power back in 1986. He ranks among the longest-serving members of parliament in the country. His political career spans decades of service to the National Resistance Movement party. Muhwezi told reporters he understands his duties as an elected representative. He focuses on passing helpful laws and watching over government operations.

Party primaries will take place July 16 for all candidates seeking nomination. Voters will line up behind their chosen candidate rather than cast secret ballots. Many political experts criticize this voting method as outdated and problematic.
