Multiphonics CV 3 Brings New Polyphony and Enhanced Modules

This week, Applied Acoustics Systems introduced a significant upgrade to its modular synthesizer and effect processor platform for macOS and Windows operating systems.

The company's flagship product, Multiphonics CV-3, functions as both a comprehensive environment for designing synthesizers and as a sophisticated tool for assembling effects chains to process audio material. The interface prioritizes accessibility without sacrificing technical capability, creating what the company describes as a harmonious ecosystem of interconnected modules.

Professional musicians and sound designers benefit from the platform's intuitive approach to sonic experimentation, allowing rapid development of musical concepts. For newcomers to synthesis technology, the system serves as an educational platform. The software includes an extensive collection of pre-designed synthesizers and effects created by industry-leading sound architects.

"Polyphonic functionality represents the defining advancement in Multiphonics CV-3, fundamentally expanding its capabilities as a musical instrument," explained Benoit Charland, who leads product design at Applied Acoustics Systems. "Users can transform any patch into a polyphonic instrument with a single button press—a remarkable achievement considering modular systems typically operate monophonically."

Charland added that the company expanded the available module library by incorporating acoustic oscillators built on their award-winning physical modeling technology. "This brings our distinctive tonal characteristics into the modular environment," he noted. "When paired with new MPE compatibility, users can develop genuinely unique synthesizers with extraordinary expressive control."

The software package runs as VST/VST3, AU, and AAX plugins on Windows and Mac platforms. Applied Acoustics Systems has made the product available immediately at a promotional price of $149 through March 31st, 2025, after which it will retail for $199. Existing customers using previous versions can upgrade for $49 during the promotional period, compared to the standard upgrade price of $79. The company has additionally reduced prices on all Multiphonics sound expansion packs by 50% during this introductory period.
